Deepti Sharma stars with a six-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in the third ODI
Deepti Sharma ran through the Sri Lankan line-up after the visitors elected to bat in the last game of the three-match ODI series to put India in the driver’s seat and returned to score 28 runs as India sailed to a seven-wicket win. The Mithali Raj-led team claimed the ODI series 3-0 with a thumping win in the last one-day match in Ranchi. After Deepti bowled the SL women out for a paltry 112, Veda Krishnamurthy anchored the chase with an unbeaten 61 run knock to post victory. The off-spinner twice claimed two wickets off two successive deliveries but the hat-trick eluded her. Deepti first trapped Prasadani Weerakkodi lbw and bowled Chamari Athapaththu for a duck off the next ball to reduce SL to 33 for two in the eighth over. While she missed out on the opportunity of claiming a hat-trick, her double blow pushed the opposition on the back-foot. Eight runs later, P Bose claimed Yasoda Mendis and without a run added to the score, Deepti sent back Oshadi Ranasinghe to leave the opposition at 41 for four in the following over. While Shashikala Siriwardena looked to revive the innings with Dilani Manodara, Deepti struck few overs later with the stand worth 21 to keep the partnership from building. Shikha Pandey then chipped in with two wickets while Bose accounted for Manodara to leave SL gasping at 108 for eight. Deepti then claimed the last two wickets off successive deliveries to wrap-up the SL innings in 38.2 overs. Although, India then lost Poonam Raut in the first over without a run on the board, while Smriti Mandhana was run out with the team score on 18, the home team scaled the sub-par target with ease. Krishnamurthy was ably supported by Deepti in overhauling the target after they lost two early wickets. After the left-hand bat was sent back for 28 by Siriwardena, Pandey joined the top-order bat in taking the team across the line. Brief scores: SL Women 112/10 in 38.2 overs (D Manodara 23, Deepti 6/20, P Bose 2/8) lost to India Women 114/3 in 29.3 overs (V Krishnamurth 61*, Deepti 28) by 7 wickets
