Always a pleasure scoring here: Prior
Summary

Day 4 centurion feels he’s lucky to have scored runs at Lord’s

London, July 24: Coming in to bat when England had lost five wickets with just 62 runs on the board, Matthew Prior scored an unbeaten century, his second at Lord’s, to take his side to 269 runs in the second innings.

Speaking to the media after the day’s play, the wicketkeeper-batsman spoke about batting at the hallowed cricket ground.

Excerpts:

On his innings and playing at Lord’s

Always a pleasure scoring runs here. I [have] been fortunate and I don’t mind playing at Lord’s. […] Alastair Cook is phenomenal [here] as well. I have been lucky enough to score some runs.

On whether he had received a message to hurry towards the end of his innings

There were a few deadlines flying about, I had to make sure that the line’s there; I was just screaming at Stuart Broad to run as hard as he could to put a bit of pressure on the fielders and get to that position where we could declare.

On England getting to bat on a bright, sunny day while India having had to bat in overcast conditions

[India] won the toss, so we didn’t have much to say; hopefully it is nice and overcast again tomorrow. The weather has been good and the wicket has been playing pretty well.

On how the wicket was likely to behave on Day 5

The wickets here hold-up pretty well, they never turn into terrible batting wickets but I think the odd one is getting a little bit even and I think Swanny [Graeme Swann ] will come into play tomorrow.

On whether he was looking to concentrate exclusively on Test cricket

I am just enjoying playing for England and playing Test cricket. It’s nice every now and again to have a bit of a break from it and prepare properly for each Test series. From that point of view it probably benefits me but I am playing for England and am just enjoying playing Test cricket at the moment.

On the injury to Gautam Gambhir off his shot

Hope Gambhir’s okay; it’s never nice seeing someone injured.
