Summary

Debutant Ashwin Das takes 4/10 in MP’s win over Railways

Delhi shot Assam out for just 44, the second lowest total in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to register their fourth win in as many games. A solid opening stand of 87 runs helped Vidarbha beat Tamil Nadu by seven wickets while Jammu and Kashmir lost their fourth game in a row. A brief recap Group A Tamil Nadu v Vidarbha: 150/8 (Baba Aparajith 41, R Sathish 32, R Thakur 2/22) Vid 154/3 (J Sharma 73, Faiz Fazal 45) by 7 wickets Chasing 151, Vidarbha needed their top-order to fire and openers Jitesh Sharma and Faiz Fazal did exactly that with an opening stand of 87 in 70 balls. Sharma hit 73 off 47 and Fazal made 45 from 37 as Vidarbha chased down a tough total. With R. Ashwin on India duty, Tamil Nadu bowlers failed to contain the flow of runs as Vidarbha got to the total comfortably with nine balls to spare. Though left-arm spinner Rahil Shah got two wickets, TN had little scope to force a turnaround. Earlier, Baba Aparajith's 41 and captain R. Sathish’s 32 from 17 balls helped TN get to 150. Dinesh Karthik was run-out in the ninth over which crippled their innings. Group A is witnessing a fierce battle for the knockout spots with four teams level on eight points. On Wednesday, they lost their fourth game in the ongoing season and 32nd in a row. After electing to bat first, J&K were bowled out for just 119 with Bandeep Singh (33), the lone contributor. Though Tripura took it to the last over, medium pacer Manisankar Muransingh’s unbeaten cameo of 23 from 11 balls sealed the deal after opener Samrat Singh knock of 45 runs.
