Georgia Redmayne and Erin Burns scored hundreds as Australia ‘A’ Women beat India ‘A’ Women by 81 runs in the second unofficial ODI at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Saturday to level the three-match series 1-1.
India ‘A’, who had won the opening game, won the toss and elected to bowl. While Mansi Joshi struck in the first over, dismissing Tahlia McGrath, Bridget Patterson, who scored 47, and Redmayne added 97 runs for the second wicket, denying India ‘A’ any immediate success.
Following Patterson’s fall, Heather Graham and Redmayne put up a 57-run stand before the former got out. Annabel Sutherland was the next to get out.
However, Burns and Redmayne joined forces and the pair’s quickfire 149-run stand pushed Australia ‘A’ past 310. While Redmayne, who scored 113 off 128 balls, remained unbeaten, Burns hammered 107 off 59 balls with the help of 13 fours and 5 sixes.
India ‘A’ enjoyed a bright start in the chase as the openers – Priya Punia and Shafali Verma – put up a 98-run stand.
While India ‘A’ lost two wickets in the space of three balls as Verma and Dayalan Hemalatha, skipper Veda Krishnamurthy and Punia, who scored a hundred, kept the team’s hopes of victory alive with a 107-run partnership.
However, with Molly Strano, who scalped three wickets, removing Veda Krishnamurthy for 40 in the 36th over and Punia perishing in the 40th over, Australia ‘A’ pushed India ‘A’ on the backfoot.
Annabel Sutherland then ran through India ‘A’s lower middle-order and lower order, scalping four wickets, as Australia ‘A’ bowled out their opponents for 234 to seal a series-levelling win.
The third and final match of the series will be played on Monday.
