Hosts chase down 159 in rain affected encounter against India ‘A’
Chasing 159, Cameron Bancroft took Australia ‘A’ across the line with an unbeaten 58 in the final session of the first four-day match against India ‘A’. With rain washing out the final session of the third day, start of play on the fourth day was delayed due to wet field in Brisbane. When play resumed on the final day of the game, the match was evenly poised with the home team needing 100 runs to win with six wickets in hand. Bancroft and Webster stabilised the innings with a 57-run stand to tip the balance in Australia ‘A’s favour until Varun Aaron struck to send back the latter. Bancroft, however continued to hold up one end stoically even as the Indians toiled to curb the batsmen. He found able allies in Sam Whiteman and Chadd Sayers to add useful runs to the total. The 24-run stand with Whiteman was ended by Jayant Yadav while Shardul Thakur accounted for the No.8 batsman 26 runs later. With two runs still needed, Bancroft took the team to the target remaining unbeaten on 58.
