Summary
Back-in-form batsman fancies India’s chances if they manage to see the new ball through
Port Elizabeth, Jan 20:Yuvraj Singh was the key performer for India bagging three South African wickets in the fourth ODI of the five-match series. Here he speaks about the approach of the Indian team and hoping to come good with the bat too.
Excerpts from the interview
On the South Africa innings
We fought back to come back well so hopefully, if we can bat well, we can win here.
On his assessment of the track
It’s a bit slow. The key would be to not lose your wicket to the new ball and consolidate [in] the last 35 overs
On the several bowling options available
Yeah, I think we have a lot of options - when the right-handers are batting, I can come in when the left-handers are batting [Suresh] Raina, Harbhajan [Singh], Yusuf [Pathan] come in. So we’ve got good options
On the challenge of batting under lights at Port Elizabeth
Yeah, it’s going to be a test. As I said, the new ball is going to be the key. If you can go through the new ball, the last 35 overs you can bat well.
On whether being relaxed has been the key to the Indians’ fortunes in this series
I think we [are] playing good as a unit and backing each other. You know, the batsmen haven’t really delivered in this tournament, so if we can do that today, it will be great for the team.
On his half-century in the second ODI and a return to form
Yeah, [I’m] feeling good going into the World Cup but I think this one is going to be very important for us.
