Team India captain says that he would not put pressure on Harbhajan by terming him an all-rounder
Hyderabad, Nov 16: Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday said that although he was pleased with Harbhajan Singh’s brilliant batting display, he would prefer not to term him an all-rounder as that might put undue pressure on Harbhajan.
In an interview, Dhoni said that he was pleased with the way his bowlers bowled despite missing the services of Zaheer Khan and part-timer Virender Sehwag in the later part of the Hyderabad Test.
Excerpts:
On Harbhajan’s back-to-back centuries:
Well I would still consider him as a specialist bowler who can bat for us rather than giving him the term of an all-rounder and put pressure on him. He has done well for us both with the bat and the ball so that is definitely a god sign. It may give us a cushion of playing with five bowlers which we have to decide at some point of time. That is a big decision and more often than not we have stayed away from that. It is a good sign as far as our batting department is concerned.
On the third and last Test at Nagpur:
Well hopefully the wicket over there will assist the spinners a bit more and that is what we are expecting. The last few games that we have played over there- the ODIs and the Test matches – the wicket tends to support the bowlers specially the spinners. Let us hope for the best and hopefully it will be a match where we can have a result.
On the wickets so far in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad:
Well what we have seen in India is the wickets with a bit of grass on the first day turn greener on the fifth day. And that is what we have seen in the two Test matches we have played in this series.
On Team India’s bowling performance:
Yeah, it was important to get early wickets. You want to create panic in the opposition dressing room and that can really get you wickets on a flat track like this. It happened for us and we got a couple of wickets, but after that we lost Zaheer Khan. He got injured and had to leave the field. I think at that time it is important to concentrate more on the process and not think about that we are just playing three bowlers. Viru got a bit of niggle with his shoulder and after that we were left with just one part-timer in the squad- Suresh Raina. So, it was a bit difficult but I think the bowlers did a good job.
