On starting the series with a win
Feeling good, we played really well, especially the bowlers bowled really well; they executed the plan really well today.
On India’s fielding
We have improved a lot. The last couple of months we have had good fielding sessions and this is the best fielding side we got in the last four or five years.
On the absence of some of the big names from the side
We have a lot of youngsters and they have done really well in first-class cricket. We have a new coach also. He’s been talking positive all the time; [he’s] had a couple of meetings with the batsmen and then he just tells the players to look to execute [their] plans. You have to deliver for the team. He has been nice for us. We have a new coach, we have a good fielding coach, Trevor Penney, so I hope we will do well in the one-day series also.
On whether the team was looking forward to the one-day series
Definitely, they all are. It’s an important series for us before the Test series. I hope the guys will do really well.
On the key factor behind the victory
We batted really well. Especially [S Badrinath] Badri and Rohit [Sharma] - they set the foundation for us. Rohit and Badri batted really well, followed by Yusuf [Pathan] and Harbhajan [Singh].
