Kerala, Haryana take first innings lead in drawn encounters

Hyderabad claimed six points from the thrilling win towards the fag end of the day. The Ravi Kiran-led attack bowled Goa out in the second innings on the last day and set themselves a small 35-run target for victory. Kerala and Haryana picked three points each on the basis of first innings lead in the opening round of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 season against J &K and Services respectively. Group C, Round 1 – Day 4

Continuing to pick wickets at quick intervals the Hyderabad attack bowled Goa out for 258 runs. Tanmay Agarwal then chased down the 35 run target with B Anirudh to hand Hyderabad their first victory of the season. Haryana vs Services at Brabourne Stadium (Mumbai): Services 1st inn 197/10 in 73 overs (A Gupta 69, SU Yadav 29, R Paliwal 3/14, Y Chahal 2/41); Haryana 1st inn 248/10 in 89.5 overs (S Rohilla 92, J Sharma 46*, VYadav 4/80, K Ahmad 4/86); Services 2nd inn 329/6 decl (N Verma 78, S Yadav 70, A Sandhu 2/46); Haryana 2nd inn 136/1 in 36 overs (N Saini 101*) Match drawn. Haryana took first innings lead. Having conceded the first innings lead, Services declared their second innings on 329 for six after resuming on 148 for two on the fourth morning. Nakul Veram top-scored for the side with 78 in the innings while S Yadav made 70. With a target of 279 runs, N Saini opened the innings for Haryana with S Rohilla. While he lost his opening partner with 74 runs on the board, Saini went on to score a century. When the game ended in a draw, Haryana were 136 for one. Kerala took first innings lead. After resuming on 106 for five, J & K were bowled out for the addition 15 runs to their overnight score on the fourth day and were asked to follow on. K Monish and Warrier ran through the lineup to give their team a chance for victory. Asked to follow on, Shubham Khajuria held the innings together until the match was called off. He was batting on 39, while the team was 91 for four when the match ended in a draw helping J & K to one point from it. Resuming on 47 for the loss of one wicket, Andhra were 167 for one in the first innings when the rain affected match was called off on the fourth day. With the innings still incomplete, both the teams were rewarded a point each.
