Centurion Saha puts Rest of India in commanding position
Summary

Pujara-Saha share an unbeaten 203-run stand

Chasing 379 runs, Cheteshwar Pujara (83* off 181 balls) and Wriddhiman Saha (123* off 214 balls) revived the Rest of India innings with an unbroken 203-run partnership after they were left reeling at 63 for four by Gujarat. While the ROI skipper patiently anchored the innings, the wicketkeeper-batsman helped seize the momentum with an unbeaten ton until Stumps of Day 3. The pair had taken ROI to 266 for four at stumps. They need 113 runs on the last day to win while Gujarat need six wickets to lift the cup. ROI got off to a poor start as the Gujarat spinners struck early in an effort to help the side maintain an upper-hand. With just 29 runs on the board, Akhil Herwadkar top-edged a Karan Patel delivery towards gully and Priyank Panchal took the catch. A while later, Abhinav Mukund was caught at short-leg off Hardik with ROI on 48 for two. In the first over after lunch, Hardik uprooted Karun Nair’s leg stump and seven runs later, Manoj Tiwary edged Mohit Thadani to the wicket-keeper and departed for seven. It looked like ROI was headed for repeat of their first innings performance when Saha joined Pujara in the middle. With time on their side, the captain played his trademark innings to hold up one end stoically while the middle-order batsman milked the opposition. Batting at a brisk pace, Saha kept the scoreboard ticking and ensured that the pressure didn’t build up. The pair took the team to Tea at 169 for four. They continued to milk the Gujarat attack in the last session as they worked their way towards the target. Saha who was taking the attack to the bowlers soon reached a three-figure mark with a boundary on the off side off Chintan Gaja as he continued carry the innings forward. The fifth-wicket partnership helped ROI seize the momentum from Gujarat in the final session of the day.
