Mumbai, June 1: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni flanked by his World Cup winning teammates took centre stage at the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) Annual Awards 2009-10 held here in Mumbai. The BCCI felicitated the winners of the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup on Tuesday evening in Mumbai. Gracing the occasion were the champions of yesteryear - Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil and Balwinder Singh Sandhu, who had brought the Cup home in 1983. Team India along with all those whose efforts behind the scenes had made this achievement possible, were honoured by the BCCI on this glittering evening. Speaking on the momentous occasion, Dhoni thanked the numerous supporters for their unflinching support and prayers. Expressing gratitude towards the fans of Indian cricket he said, “It wasn’t just a billion Indian wishes but a 100 crore more people from outside and not just India but the whole world whose support helped us." "When you play for the country, the one thing you want to win is the World Cup. It is a proud moment for all of us. The victory was achieved thanks to the combination of experienced players and youngsters. We exploited the conditions really well. It was a great moment,” added the man who led India to a second World Cup glory. The board recognised the efforts of each and every member of the team. While Dhoni and the team received Rs 2 crore each, the support staff, including coach Gary Kirsten to the masseur, received Rs 50 lakh each. Dhoni also thanked the BCCI saying, "From school cricket to under-16 cricket to where we are, it is all because of the cricket board and we are thankful to them. It’s really a proud moment for us."
