Changed stance helped: Warner

Aussie opener benefits from coach’s advice

Melbourne, Dec 20: Australian opener David Warner, who made his Test debut against New Zealand earlier this month, impressed with an unbeaten 123 in only his second Test even as his side went down to the Black Caps.

The flashy southpaw, known for his limited-overs histrionics, credited new coach Mickey Arthur for his good run with the bat in recent outings; he struck an unbeaten 102 in the opening week of the Twenty20 Big Bash league in Melbourne.

"I don't think many people would have noticed this at all, but in the second innings in the [Hobart] Test I actually changed my stance," Warner was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

"My stance was a bit closer than it normally is. Mickey Arthur actually just made a note to me before that saying, ‘I think that you should move your stance closer together’. It allows me to put my weight going forward," the 25-year-old elaborated.

Warner added that the changed stance has helped him improve a few shots.

"Every time I went to drive the ball, a lot of my weight was on my back foot. That's probably why I was driving a few balls in the air and not actually getting the timing right and hitting it through the covers instead of backward point.

"That's really helped me and it shows that in the Twenty20 form it works as well," he said.
