Baroda’s Devdhar shines with a triple-ton

Baroda opener, Mrunal Devdhar was one of the stars of the first round of the 2015-16 season of the Col. C. K. Nayudu Trophy. Goa’s Malik Sirur impressed with the bat and the ball against Jammu and Kashmir. He finished with nine-wickets in the match and scored a century while batting at the crucial No 3 position. While 13 matches were played in the first round of the four-day games that started on October 10th, given below are the highlights at the end of the round. Hyderabad vs Tripura: Hyderabad opened their account with a thumping innings and 165 runs win against Tripura. After their top-order helped post 362, the hosts’ bowlers then dominated the show. T Ravi Teja claimed 4 for 23 to help bundle Tripura out for 106 in the first innings. Tanay Thyagarajan, who picked two for 18 in the first innings, took four for 35 to skittle the opposition out for 91 after enforcing the follow-on. Saaketh who had taken two wickets in the first innings picked three for 29 in the second innings.

Maharashtra vs Madhya Pradesh: Avesh Khan (5/20)-led attack bowled Maharashtra out for 47 in the first innings. Saransh Jain claimed three for one in 1.2 overs as the MP bowlers dictated the innings. MP then scored 171 while Maharashtra put up a better performance in the next to make 200 in 2nd innings even as Avesh Khan claimed four wickets. However, Ashutosh Singh and Venkatesh Iyer took MP to a 180 for three and win by seven wickets. Baroda vs Delhi: Hosts Baroda dominated with the bat and the ball to beat Delhi by an innings and 194 Runs in the season opener. After A Seth (4/53) and V Yadav (3/51) bowled Delhi out for 221 it was run-fest at the Reliance Cricket Stadium for the home team. Mrunal Devdhar scored a mammoth 311 while NK Singh remained unbeaten on 224* off 466 balls as they helped Baroda declare their innings on 582 for four. Seth then returned to claim five for 29 and helped bowl his side to victory.

Jharkhand vs Assam: Sumit Kumar's unbeaten 203 off 255 balls and Shasheem's 147 helped Jharkhand seize a first innings lead and post a massive 523 for four 4 before declaring their innings after Vikash (3/37), Rahul Prasad (3/37) and Monu Kumar (2/51) bowled Assam out for 194. Despite Rahul Hazarika's 113 in the second innings, Assam were bowled out for 217 in the second as Sonu Kumar Singh claimed four for 30 and Vikash picked three for 39 to take the team to innings and 112-run win. Uttar Pradesh vs Punjab: Akshdeep Nath’s 238 in the first innings helped Uttar Pradesh to 476 while Saurabh Kumar’s five for 46 aided in bowling Punjab out for 168 and taking a first innings lead. The match ended in a draw with UP receiving three points from it.

J &K vs Goa: At the Sher E Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar, visitors Goa pulled of a six-wicket win against Jammu & Kashmir on the final day of the match. Sirur starred with bat and ball for Goa as they posted a win. He claimed four for 20 in the first innings and returned to post a century to help set-up the match for the visiting team. He then came back to pick five for 84 to keep the match tipped in Goa's favour. Odisha vs Chhattisgarh: Odisha Ranjit Singh's double-century (209 off 446) helped the team to 504 for six before declaring their first innings against Chhattisgarh. They bowled the opposition out for 416 and picked three points on first innings lead from the drawn match. Gujarat vs Mumbai: Dominated by batsmen from either team, the Gujarat vs Mumbai encounter in Ahmedabad ended in favour of the home team. Gujarat got three points for taking the first innings lead by a narrow margin, courtesy Karan Patel and HP Patel who ended Mumbai’s lower-order’s resistance to bowl the hosts to a 16-run lead. In the thrilling encounter, 225 by AU Patel and 179 by AA Pathan had helped Gujarat to 576 for 4 until they declared their first innings. Jay Bista then scored 201 while middle-order batsman Shivam Dube made 125 to keep Mumbai in the fray. HP Patel (4 wickets) and Karan Patel (two wickets) then helped bowl Mumbai out for 560. The run out of Parikshit Valsangkar (89) with the team on 544 followed by Khan A Alihusen’s dismissal without a run added to the total left Mumbai on 544 for nine. Karan then claimed T U Deshpande to help his team to a narrow lead.
