‘Delighted to get team back into game’
Summary

MoM Broad talks about his hat-trick, batting and more

Nottingham, Aug 1: Local lad Stuart Broad was awarded the Man-of-the-Match award after England won the match in Trent Bridge by 319 runs, with a day to spare. The tall pacer contributed with the bat and the ball on his home ground; he picked six wickets and scored 64 runs in the first innings and then came back to scored 44 run and claim two wickets in the second.

In the post-match interaction with the media, the pacer spoke about the match, his hat-trick and the series so far.

Excerpts:

On his all-round form

It’s amazing but more importantly, we are winning Test matches. This is a great team performance throughout. There’s amazing individual performances and with luck we go 2-0 in the series.

On what is giving him more pleasure – his batting or bowling

The wickets [are] always nice; they were hard to come by for the first half of the season so to be picking up a few wickets is pleasing. But I think at the start of the game, when we were in trouble, coming out with Swanny [Graeme Swann] and having a bit of fun [with the bat] was pleasing as well.

On what he and Swann talked about in the middle

Well we never needed coaching to have a bit of a slog really so it was important that we upped the scoring rate and had a positive intent. That was all we focussed on and that paid off well.

On whether he had taken a hat-trick before in any form of the game.

Yes in Under-15 [cricket], that was a while ago. The atmosphere [now] was slightly better; it was very pleasing and [I was] delighted to get the team back into the game.

On whether he looks back now and wonders about his doubts around his form at the beginning of the summer

Well yes, of course. [I’ve been] bowling a slightly fuller length in the past couple of games and it has paid off for me. But I tend not to look too far back and continue to look to do that in the next couple of Test matches against India.

On England sporting a great bowling unit

Pretty much; it’s got some great depth as well. If you look at the likes of Christian [Chris Tremlett], he is injured; in this game, Tim Bresnan comes and gets a five-for. So there is a lot of depth, there is a lot of confidence in the bowling unit and it’s a pleasure to be part of.
