3-day game against SA Emerging Players ends in draw

Brisbane, Aug 3: The Indian Emerging Players have drawn their three-day game against the South Africa Emerging Players side here at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. The match was called off with India Emerging Players needing just four runs to win in an interesting fourth innings chase.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first the South Africa side were bowled out for 259. R Vinay Kumar and left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla took three wickets each in the SA first innings. The Indian side then replied with a score of 269 for eight declared thanks to a smashing 146 by captain Shikhar Dhawan. For South Africa, Ethan O’ Reilly, Kyle Abbott and Andrew Birch took two wickets each.

The South Africans then put up a much improved showing in their second innings with opener Reeza Hendricks (125*) and Stiaan van Zyl (128) hitting centuries. The Proteas eventually declared their innings at a score of 291 for the loss of three wickets thereby setting the Indians a score of 282 to win.

Ajinkya Rahane’s 109 off just 122 deliveries kept India on course for victory but with only four runs needed to win, the match was called off by umpires Nathan Johnstone and Damien Mealey after the first delivery of the fourth mandatory over, bowled by Kyle Abbott.
