Eng captain believes poor fielding was the difference
Mohali, Oct 20: England learned what it was to have the shoe on the other foot after India beat them in the Mohali ODI to win the five-match ODI series between the two sides 3-0. Having beaten India in every format of the game a few weeks back in England, the visitors have faced defeat in each of the first three ODIs. The look of disappointment on England skipper’s Alastair Cook’s face when India captain MS Dhoni hit a four to seal the series in the Mohali ODI told the story of the side’s dismal run in this series. .
Excerpts from Cook’s brief chat with the media after the match:
On this match being England’s best chance of winning
It’s a tough defeat to take, especially when it’s so close. It would be easier if you don’t play as well.
On misfields and dropped catches
Our fielding has been slightly below par on this tour which is very unusual for us. It cost us 20-25 runs in the field today. We don’t usually do that and that was probably the difference between the two sides
On what England thought during the break after setting India a target of 299
Six-an-over is always a tough chase. Even if you get off to a good start, if you get couple of wickets, the [required] rate quickly goes up. But credit to MS [Dhoni] and [Ravindra] Jadeja. They finished that off. MS is world class and he proved that again.
On the pitch which helped score almost 600 runs
Yes, that’s what you want to see in One-Day cricket.
