The Indian skipper says the team takes pride in representing the country
Cape Town, Jan 6: Indian Captain MS Dhoni was proud of the way his team performed, to come back from a Test down, and draw the 3-match series against hosts South Africa. Dhoni spoke on the positives from the series and was particularly effusive in his praise of Harabhajan Singh's bowling efforts.
Here are the excerpts of his post-match interview:
On leveling the series:
Well of course it was, it was a very interesting series and as far as starting from behind is concerned we are quite used to it. We never play the first Test match well so it’s really good to be back. I think all the batsman did their job, the bowlers did really well in Durban and in of course this game also I think they did the job you know but the last effort we couldn’t really put that. When it comes to taking that last wicket in the second innings so I think at the end of the day we will be happy with our performance
On the possibility of pulling off a win when South Africa was 130/6
Well of course but, if you see the nature of the Kookaburra ball it gets a bit difficult after the 40th over. And specially our bowlers, they are more skill bowlers than pace bowlers so I think it becomes very difficult for them to push a batsman out specially if a somebody like Jacques is batting so you know I think it was a job well done from their side. We won’t have minded one more wicket and at the end of the day chasing something close to 250 or 260 odd runs we would have fancied our chances
On being proud of the side as India has drawn a series in South Africa for the first time
Well of course, and as I always say we have got a tremendous side. We take pride in performing for India and we prepare well for every game we don’t really bother about the result. What we do is we prepare really well for a game
On the positives from the series:
Well there are plenty of positives you know. Of course we would have loved to start well in a series but we couldn’t in this series. It was good to see the effort put in by the fast bowlers. It’s not always the wicket that counts but at the end of the day some of the wickets you have to just come and bowl fast and give your best and that was definitely a good sign. And Harbhajan the way he bowled throughout the series. Apart from that, of course you know our batsman they are renowned all over the world for scoring so it was good to see individuals come up with performances like that and overall a very good unit to play with.
