Duleep Trophy Final: Central v East, Day 2
Summary

C Zone bowlers make inroads on rain-affected day

Chennai, 22 Oct: After rain delayed the start of the second day's play in the title clash of the Airtel Duleep Trophy, Central Zone (who opted to field first) reduced defending champions East Zone to 64 for three to walk away with the day's honours. East Zone openers Dheeraj Jadhav and skipper Natraj Behera saw off a testing spell from Praveen Kumar, who got the new ball to dart around early on. The left and right-hand pair took a cautious approach and blocked several deliveries and batted out several maiden overs. The left-handed Jadhav would be first to be dismissed when he was beaten by a flatter one from Jalaj Saxena and trapped leg before wicket; he made 25 from 63 deliveries. Behera would be dismissed soon after when he miscued a pull shot and holed out to the man at mid-off. Nine runs later, on what would be the final delivery of the day, Anustup Majumdar holed out to Saxena at square leg. After an opening partnership of 44 runs (which lasted 16.3 overs), East Zone would slip to 64 for 3 in 31.2 overs when bad light forced players off the field with 6.4 overs remaining to be bowled. Though Praveen Kumar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled well, they had nothing to show for in the wickets column. Saxena, who bowled beautifully - tossing the ball up in the air and giving it lots of revolutions - returned with two wickets. Brief Scores: East Zone 1st Innings: 64-3 in 31.2 overs (Dheeraj Jadhav 25, Jalaj Saxena 2-12)
