Duleep Trophy QF: WZ v EZ, Day 3
Summary

Majumdar ton, pacers give East Zone the edge

Valsad, Jan 29: A fine century from Anustup Majumdar (102*), and fiery bowling by the medium pacers, has given East Zone an edge over West Zone in the quarterfinal of the 2011-12 Duleep Trophy. At stumps on Day 3, the West Zone scorecard read 131 for five, giving them a second-innings lead of 102. After skipper Natraj Behera (130) got out adding 28 to his overnight score, Majumdar set about getting East past West’s first-innings total. Although he received little support from his fellow batsmen, he scored at a decent pace, scoring at a healthy strike-rate of 69.38 with the help of 12 fours and a six. Samad Fallah was West Zone’s best bowler with figures of three for 53 while Akshay Darekar and Suryakumar Yadav bagged two each. With a first-innings lead of 29 runs, the East Zone bowlers showed tremendous discipline to have the first five West Zone batsmen back in the hut. The wickets were shared by Debashish Mohanty (two for 43) and Abu Nechim Ahmed (three for 31), who got rid of West Zone’s first-innings centurion Suryakumar Yadav (34). Rohit Motwani is the top-scorer in West Zone’s second innings so far with 37 runs.
