Edwards recalled for second Test
Summary

Nash dropped from 13-man squad for 2nd Test

Barbados, June 27: West Indies opening batsman Kirk Edwards has been recalled for the second Test match against India in the only change made to the 13-man squad by the West Indies cricket Board. Edwards replaces vice-captain Brendan Nash who posted scores of 1 and 9 at Sabina Park where West Indies lost to India by 63 runs.

“It is clear that Brendan has been struggling for form for some time and we want to give him a chance to take some time away from international cricket and work on his game," Clyde Butts, the chairman of selectors, said. "Brendan is a mentally tough cricketer and we are sure that he will be able to overcome the challenges he is now facing and come back strong.”

With the exit of Nash, the chances of Marlon Samuels, who was left out of the playing eleven in the Sabina Park Test, playing the second Test match increase manifold because of the hosts’ vulnerability in the middle-order. Also, Edwards is not particularly in good form having scored only 46 runs cumulatively in the three ODI games that he played against India. His inexperience at the Test level (hasn’t played a Test yet), may also work against him.

The second Test of the three match series between the two sides begins on June 28 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.

West Indies squad: Darren Sammy (c), Adrian Barath, Lendl Simmons, Darren Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Marlon Samuels, Carlton Baugh (wk), Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul, Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach and Kirk Edwards.
