Broad bowls England to 67-run win
Fatullah, Feb 18: Stuart Broad took five wickets to set up a 69-run victory for England against Pakistan in the final warm-up game before the 2011 ICC World Cup kicks off on February 19. England now head into the tournament having won both their warm-up games in the lead up to the World Cup.
Earlier, it was Pakistan who opted to field in a match that was a day/night affair. England had a poor start to their innings as they lost Andrew Strauss (6) and Jonathon Trott (9) early. However, Kevin Pietersen (66), Paul Collingwood (65), Ravi Bopara (35) and Matt Prior (24 off 15 balls) helped the English recover and pose a competitive total of 273. For Pakistan, Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz took three wickets each.
Pakistan, in reply, were tottering at 34/3 as Broad removed Mohammad Hafeez (0), Kamran Akmal (18) and Umar Akmal (2) before the completion of the 10th over. Younis Khan (80) tried to inspire a Pakistani fight back but when Broad had him caught by wicketkeeper Prior with the score at 187, the English were very much within touching distance of a victory. Paul Collingwood took three wickets on the evening while Wahab Riaz, Broad’s fifth victim of the game, was the last Pakistani batsman to fall with the score at 206.
Brief scores: England 273 all out in 49.4 overs (Kevin Pietersen 66, Paul Collingwood 65, Junaid Khan 3/44) beat Pakistan 206 (Younis Khan, Stuart Broad 5/25, Paul Collingwood 3/48) by 67 runs
