Enjoying my cricket: Parthiv
Summary

Stand-in keeper for MS Dhoni, Parthiv Patel is happy with his batting and keeping form

Antigua, June 11: After a successful domestic season, diminutive wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel was chosen to replace MS Dhoni in the series against West Indies. The stand-in keeper has done well behind the stumps as well as in front of them in the series thus far.

In an interview before the third ODI, Parthiv spoke about his form and return to the national side.

On the series

Good effort, had a good last two games and a good Twenty20 as well. Good to get a 50 in the last game as well and hope to convert to a big score today.

On whether he feels any pressure getting back into the team having lost his place after making his debut in 2003

Pressure is already there when you are representing your country. I have been enjoying my cricket, I have been batting well, I have been keeping well so I would just like to enjoy the game, enjoy the moment and try and score as many runs as possible.

On the role played by Kiran More and Anshuman Gaekwad in shaping his career

I think all the coaches I have worked with have been very motivating. Everyone believed in me and I think that was the reason they have been working with me and I [believed] in myself as well. I have been working hard and [it’s] good to get rewards as well.

On the aspect of his batting and wicketkeeping he has been working on in the period that he has been out of the team

Mainly I had to work on the skills and fitness. I have been much fitter [and] that’s probably the reason why I have been scoring runs and I have been keeping well as well.

On being the stand-in keeper for MS Dhoni who is also the regular captain of the team

I’ve just got to stay in the present right now. I am playing well right now and would just like to enjoy this moment and try and score as many runs as possible and stake my claim whenever the opportunity happens.
