Pacer Zaheer Khan feels each international encounter must be approached with equal intensity
New Delhi, March 9: Pacer Zaheer Khan, spearhead of the Indian bowling attack, feels it is good to be playing back to back matches to keep the momentum going.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game against Netherlands he added that one should never underestimate the opponent and give every international game equal importance.
Excerpts from a pre-match interview
On the bowling against Ireland after getting off to a fabulous start
It was good track to bat on. I felt that we restricted them nicely. Obviously that’s the way cricket goes - one good partnership and they could [put up] two hundred runs on the board.
On the composition of India’s bowling attack for the quarter-finals
It’s a long tournament so it’s really important that we peak at the right time as a team. [Going by] that, things are looking good right now.
On the batting
It’s important to deal with pressure before the big games. Keeping that in mind, the way the last game went was good. Yuvraj [Singh] and Yusuf [Pathan] and MS [Dhoni] as well put on good partnerships at crucial stages of the game.
On playing against the Netherlands
An international game is an international game. You should prepare keeping in mind that you are playing an international game. All the games you play, [you play] to win. So that’s the way you go about it.
On playing South Africa in three days’ time
Well, I am focused on this game right now. It’s good to play back to back matches to keep the momentum going and right now things are looking good. [The one against] South Africa will also be a good game.
