Man-of-the-Match says he backed himself to get wickets
Ahmedabad, Dec 5: West Indies pacer Ravi Rampaul took the visitors to their first win of tour with a four-wicket haul in the third ODI at Ahmedabad. The Man-of-the-Match was on a hat-trick early in his spell with the wickets of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir off consecutive deliveries. He later claimed the wicket of Suresh Raina and then trapped Abhimanyu Mithun to finish the game off for his side.
Excerpts from the presentation ceremony:
On his effort with the ball in this match and the bat in the previous one
Everything is working in my favour at the moment. I would just like to keep up the form and hopefully we can keep up the winning form.
On the two early wickets
We needed to get a positive start. We needed to pick early wickets with the new ball to get into the middle order as soon as possible. That’s what I have done: bowl in the right areas.
On getting some movement early on
Yes, the ball was swinging around a little bit […] [I] just [wanted to] bowl wicket-to wicket. Sunil Narine came in and making his debut he really bowled well and kept the pressure and took the odd wicket here and there.
On being asked to bowl the final over
It was a tough game but it isn’t really over till the last ball is bowled or the last wicket is taken. I got two boundaries before so the pressure was there and I was thinking to myself, ‘It cannot be so hard to win.’ So I just backed myself and went out and got the wicket.
On the win giving the West Indies the confidence to win the series
We are a confident bunch of guys and basically this win today will carry us forward to the next match. Hopefully people are confident and we are ready to battle for the next game.
