Jacques Kallis says that the double hundred has been worth the wait as it has contributed to a win
Centurion, Dec 20: Sachin Tendulkar was not the only man who re-wrote the record books at the SuperSport Park - old warhorse Jacques Kallis too went on to register a Test hundred, his 38th and went on to make it a double.
Kallis, who won the Man-of-the-Match award for the first Test between South Africa and India, said that it was a special feeling as it contributed towards a huge win against the premier Test side of the world.
Excerpts from an interview.
On his maiden double hundred
It is certainly a very special moment. As I said, it has been worth the wait [since it features] in a South African victory.
On whether the feeling had sunk in
Maybe when I go to bat in Durban [during the second Test], and see the highest score against my name as 201, it will sink in. Like I said, it is a very special feeling.
On the all-round performance of South Africa
It was. We needed to play good cricket to beat them [Team India] and we fortunately [put up] a big performance on Day 1 which applied the pressure. And there are areas where we can improve as always. The all-round performance [is commendable] and everyone contributed which made it special.
The strike-rate maintained by the SA batsmen
It was important as it gives a lot of time to the bowlers to get those [opposition] wickets. We have been positive with the bat and the ball. It’s the kind of cricket we’ve been playing so hopefully we can continue in that vein.
