The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars will depart for their tour of India tomorrow.

The tour will include three One-Day International matches and five T20 International matches against the Indian women’s team.

The series will provide a good opportunity for the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars to compete against one of the frontrunners for the 2012 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 and the 2013 ICC Women’s World Cup.

The two teams last met in the ODI Quadrangular Series in England in July last year, where the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars claimed victory in their pool match.

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars captain Jodie Fields said she was looking forward to the opportunity to face a strong Indian side on their home grounds.

“We will be hoping to build on our recent success against New Zealand where we retained the Rose Bowl and claimed the T20 series.

“The unchanged squad has a good mixture of youth and experience and the tour will provide an opportunity for the younger players in particular to gain important international experience and preparation for playing two big tournaments in the subcontinent.

“This tour will provide us with some vital match practice against some of the best women’s cricketers in the world as we continue our preparations to defend the ICC World Twenty20 title in September,” Fields said.

The Women’s National Selection Panel (WNSP) last month announced a 14-player squad for the tour.
