Johannesburg, Dec 14: Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday emphasised that it was important for his team to focus on the upcoming series rather than thinking about past feats in the Rainbow Nation.
Dhoni said, "It's not always about history or what you have achieved in the past. It's always better when it comes to international cricket not to think too much about the stats. It's really important to stay in the present and prepare properly and it's about how well the batsmen adapt to the bowlers."
On being asked about the hype surrounding the pace and bounce of the wickets here, Dhoni exuded confidence that his team would adapt to the conditions quickly.
"As far as the conditions here are concerned, most of our players are used to playing a fair amount of cricket here, whether it's the shorter form of the game or Test matches. We want to see some good cricket and we are quite prepared for it so hopefully it will be an interesting series. We'll see exactly what wickets have been prepared for us and then we'll decide accordingly how we need to play," he said.
"It's all about adapting to the conditions and, at the same time, what kind of bowler you are facing and how much they are in form," he added.
In his trademark style, Dhoni played down the hype saying, “We don't think too much about the results, because we know the amount of talent we have. Preparing well and adapting well - those are the areas [on which] we are concentrating right now.”
