Expert feels India need to bring in fresh players like Varun Aaron
Southampton, Sept 7: England negotiated the Indian bowlers easily to chase down 288 runs and register a seven-wicket win in the rain-curtailed second ODI at The Rose Bowl.
With three ODIs remaining in the series, former all-rounder Ravi Shastri feels that India should give young bowlers like Varun Aaron a chance to display their skills.
In an exclusive interview with www.bcci.tv, Shastri reviewed India’s performance at The Rose Bowl.
Excerpts:
On India’s bowling being the weak link in the second ODI
Yes, if I have to repeat that again, it is an understatement. You always need to get 20-30 extra [runs] on the board and you are still not there because of your bowling and fielding.
On whether India should look to bat second in the limited overs format
[That is a] better option and they should get in Varun Aaron and at least see what he is like. [India needs] hot blooded youngsters in the batting department; don’t be afraid to give bowlers a chance as well.
On the Hot Spot disappointing once again
The story of the summer.
On Ajinkya Rahane
I think he is one player who can play all formats of the game.
On how India can make a comeback in the remaining three ODIs
It is going to be very difficult. England have got the tendency [to win]. India will need a spectacular performance by an individual to take the game away from the opposition.
