Good end to the season: Sehwag
Summary

Series captain acknowledges Gambhir's leadership

Chennai, Dec 11: India have won the five-match ODI series against the West Indies 4-1 thanks to a 34-run victory at at the Chepauk. Virender Sehwag, India’s captain for the series who sat out the last match, was pleased with the youngsters’ performance right through the ODIs.

Excerpts from the post-match presentation:

On whether he was happy with the way the series unfolded

Yes, absolutely. The young team [has] done a fantastic job, especially the fielding and the bowling part. Our bowlers were inexperienced, [yet] the way they bowled against big-hitters [was superb]. I think they did a fantastic job.

On whether he was happy with the way the youngsters used their opportunities

Yes, I asked each and everyone, ‘Can you take a break?’ but they refused, so I had to take a break. I wanted to give an opportunity to each and every one and I’m very happy [with] the way [they] took the opportunity. Especially Manoj Tiwary – the way he batted, scored a hundred, I am very happy for him.

On the energetic fielding throughout the series

They are all very good fielders and they know the importance of each and every run. They try to stop each and every run and try to take all the catches and I think our fielding side is a lot better [than before].

On winning nine out of ten one-day games that India has played on the trot

You cannot ask for anything more than this. Gautam [Gambhir] did a fantastic job as a captain. When he was captain against New Zealand, he won 5-0; MS Dhoni won a 5-0 against England; and now we’ve won 4-1. Now I think it’s a good end to the season.
