Aussie opener talks about the Olympic Stadium wicket
Sydney, Feb 1: Having beaten India 4-0 in the Tests, Australia take on the visitors in the first T20I of the tour at the Sydney Olympic Stadium. Opener David Warner has been in good form and is looking forward to some more exciting cricket after proving himself in the longest format of the game.
Excerpts from his pre-match TV interview:
On returning to T20 cricket after his Test success
It feels amazing. It has been a great [Test] series for us and to win 4-0 is fantastic and now we move on to the Twenty20 format. I have got some form under my belt and [I want] to come out here and score some more runs.
On the high expectations from him especially after his explosive innings at Perth
I wouldn’t think so. I have shown how I can bat in the Test format with a credible and an aggressive strike-rate and T20 is all about a good strike-rate; you want to be striking at 140 or 150. Hopefully I can continue doing that for Australia. It’s a bit of a different wicket compared to the WACA but I am looking forward to getting out there.
On the switch-hits he employed during CLT20
[…] Here it’s a lot shorter [distance]. Chennai was a bigger ground and it was a very hot day. It’s a bit overcast and cloudy so […] if the momentum swings my way, I will definitely play the switch-hit.
On the difficulty with predicting pitch conditions
If you have been watching previous games here, totals of 160-170 are gettable. When the wicket was changed recently we saw big totals. But when it was facing the other direction, [totals] were around 130-140 because everyone would hit square of the wicket since the boundaries were smaller. But now it is good for batsmen and also good for the bowlers if they hit the right lengths.
