Good to win while chasing: Gambhir
Summary

Gautam Gambhir is looking to convert his starts into big scores

New Delhi, March 9: Batsman Gautam Gambhir, who played a watchful knock of 28 runs off 28 deliveries before an unfortunate dismissal, spoke to the press after the game against Netherlands.

Excerpts from the interaction.

On conducting challenging chases

Yeah, it’s always good that when you’ve got to get to the big games, when you’ve got to get into the quarter-finals, you have a lot of experience of chasing and then defending as well. And if you see the last two wickets that we played on, I think the wickets were not that great. Still we managed to chase and it’s a good thing for us.

On his dismissal

Well, it’s obviously disappointing when you are batting well and you’ve done the hard work. So it was all about finishing the game. But then the good part is that I am batting well and it’s just about converting those 20s and 30s into those big ones. The most important thing is when you end up winning, I think it gives you more satisfaction.

On the pitch

Well, it was a slow wicket and we always knew that it’s going to be a slow wicket. If we would have won the toss, we would have definitely batted too. But then the toss is not in your hands and our bowlers did a great job by restricting them to190. I think Delhi’s always been a slow wicket and we managed to win this game - it is always a good feeling.

On Yuvraj Singh’s form

I have always said that he is a very crucial member of the side and it was very important for him to be back in form for the team. The way he has been batting, hopefully he can continue in the same way. And when it comes to such games he can continue his form.
