Karnataka handed Mumbai an innings defeat and sailed into the semi-finals of Ranji Trophy 2017-18. K Gowtham finished with a six-wicket haul as he ran through the Mumbai lineup in the second innings. Abhimanyu Eswaran’s second ton in the match and Writtick Chatterjee’s maiden double-century put Bengal in the driver’s seat against defending champions Gujarat. Delhi, who have already secured a first innings lead need 217 to win against Madhya Pradesh on the final day. Powered by Faiz Fazal and A Wankhede’s centuries, Vidarbha piled on runs against Kerala. Here are the highlights Ranji Trophy 2017-18, Quarter-finals - Day 4: Karnataka vs Mumbai in Vidarbha: While Vinay Kumar had dismantled the Mumbai lineup in the first innings, K Gowtham wrecked the lineup in the second innings to help Karnataka to an innings and 20-run win in the quarter-final clash. Mumbai were trailing by 277 runs with seven wickets in hand when play resumed on Day 4. With 92 runs added to the overnight total, Surya Kumar Yadav was run out for 108 at the non-striker’s end. Parkar (65 off 186), who had watchfully held one end up was the next to return to the dressing room 19 runs later. Wasim Jaffer then joined the opener in the middle and the pair added 74 runs to the total, until the opener was sent back by Akhsay KC for 119 leaving Vidarbha on 217 for three. A while later with the team on 257, Nidheesh MD bowled the veteran middle-order bat for 58. Ganesh Satish then took the side to 392 with Wankhede until the flourishing partnership was ended by Jalaj Saxena. The bowler claimed Satish to end the fifth wicket stand for 135. And 24 runs later, Wankhede was removed by Akshay KC for 107. When play ended for the day, A Wadkar was batting with Karn Sharma. Earlier after resuming their second innings on 47 for two, MP were bowled out for 283 on Day 4. Vikas Mishra claimed four while Tokas picked three wickets as Delhi struck at regular intervals to keep the MP lineup in check. Harpreet Singh Bhatia top-scored for MP in the second innings with 78 runs until being trapped lbw by Mishra while Puneet Datey had scored 60. Useful contributions by the rest of the lineup helped MP set Delhi a respectable target after having conceded the first innings lead. A Eswaran, who has been in good form slammed a second successive century while Writtick Chatterjee posted his maiden double ton to propel Bengal to 483 for four until Stumps on Day 4.

After resuming the innings on 177 for one, Eswaran, who was batting overnight on 93 brought his three-figure mark. However, while on 114, the opener was sent back by Ishwar Choudhary leaving Bengal on 220 for two. Chatterjee, who was batting on 40 when play started on the fourth morning then anchored the Bengal innings through the day. He was involved in a 166-run partnership with Manoj Tiwary (59) until the captain was sent back by Chaudhary. With Shreevats Goswami, the top-order bat took the team to 474 until the former was bowled by S Gohil. When play ended for the day, Chatterjee was batting on 213 with Anustup Mujumdar on six.
