Great learning experience: Kohli
Summary

The batsman has some great catches to his credit on his first tour to SA with Team India

Port Elizabeth, Jan 21: India’s Virat Kohli has had a decent series with the bat and held some brilliant catches on the tour, especially the one off Harbhajan Singh’s bowling to dismiss Colin Ingram in the third ODI. The dashing youngster spoke about the tour ahead of the fourth ODI at Port Elizabeth.

Excerpts from the conversation

On the tour to South Africa

I’m looking to bat well on this tour and that’s been working for me.

On enjoying the fielding as much as the batting

Yeah, I mean the credit has to go to the support staff because they really work hard with us on the fielding. You need someone to actually hit the catches to you as well. The boys are looking to improve in every fielding session too.

On his favourite fielding position

Anywhere. Probably I enjoy fielding at slip to spinners because I feel I could really move well. I feel confident there but I can field anywhere the team wants me to.

On playing against bowlers like Morkel and Steyn on South African wickets

We’ve been to South Africa [with the] IPL but the tracks [then] were totally different. They were batting wickets. This time [the tracks] are supporting the bowlers as well and we are playing these world class bowlers. This is my first tour to South Africa with India so it is a big learning curve for me. I am really enjoying whatever is happening with the team and [with me] personally as well.
