Visakhapatnam, Dec 2: Man-of-the-Match Virat Kohli scored a brilliant 117 runs and and put together a match-winning partnership of 163 with Rohit Sharma to help India win the second ODI against West Indies. The batsman spoke about his brilliant run of form in the post-match presentation.

Excerpts:

On scoring two hundreds on the trot at the venue [he had scored 118 against Australia in his last match here]

I’ve got two hundreds in two games at this ground but to be honest, the wickets were really different. The last time [the wicket] was really slow and really good to bat on but this time around it was really difficult to go and get yourself in; this one took a lot of hard work. I had to work hard for this but obviously it is a special ground for me.

On the atmosphere at the ground

It was absolutely amazing. It’s a fully packed stadium with a lot of people coming and supporting us so it’s always been good here. The one thing that is really good about this ground is that people love their cricket here and you know they come out in thousands and support the team well. Hats off to them for supporting us throughout.

On batting with Rohit Sharma

It’s always great to bat with him because that way we can learn how to build partnerships together. There might be a few times [where we bat together] going ahead as well. I am batting at No. 4, he at No. 5; we might have to string in more partnerships. We kept talking to each other in the middle and it’s always a pleasure to watch him bat. He is such a great player […]; it’s a pleasure to watch him bat.

On the dew factor

There wasn’t much dew, surprisingly. The last time there was a lot of dew on this ground but this time around there was nothing. It was a damp wicket early on. When the seam was nice and upright, it was seaming around a bit. [It] took some patience to get the eye in. Later on we could play our shots when the ball got old. You had to plan your innings out there. All in all [I’m] really happy with the performance.

On enjoying his cricket at the moment

Yes, I am enjoying it. I have learnt one thing, to extend my form as much as I can because you never know when you get out of form. It’s the worst feeing ever for a batsman to have a series of five matches [where] you are not in form; those five innings can be the worst ever. I know the feeling of going through a bad patch. So I want to extend [this good run] as long as possible in this series and bigger series coming up. I need to be in that zone going ahead.
