Maharashtra offie picks four-four against Mumbai
Mumbai, Jan 29: Maharashtra offspinner Kazi Shamsu Zuma claimed a four-for to help bowl Mumbai out for 173 runs in the Elite Cooch Behar encounter in progress at the Wankhede stadium. Kazi was batting on 14 when he was dismissed by a brilliant catch by keeper Sagar Kerkar off Harmeet Singh’s bowling. Maharashtra could have sneaked past Mumbai had Kazi stayed at the crease a while longer and grafted runs; as it turned out, the visitors were all out for 150 runs. A while later, they erred again as Satyajit Bacchav dropped Jaideep before he could open his account. Cashing in on his good fortune, the Mumbai opener slammed an unbeaten 66 to take Mumbai to 91 without loss at the end of Day 2.
With the match evenly poised, Maharashtra need to pick up their game as they head into Day 3. Kazi spoke about the match after stumps today. Excerpts:
On claiming four Mumbai wickets
We tried to build pressure and take wickets. First our pacer Amol Chinte took four wickets and then [the Mumbai batsmen] got out playing across [the line]. I kept bowling at their stumps.
On being asked to name his role model
Harbhajan Singh.
On whether he bowls the doosra
I don’t bowl the doosra. My stock delivery is the ‘floater’ – the outside one; I bowl it straight. I am trying to develop the ‘carrom’ ball, etc.
On his coac
Moin Sir in Nanded.
On whether the wicket had changed since Day 1
Today the ball was turning.
On whether the other batsmen could have taken the team across the line
Yes they could have but the ball was swinging a bit.
On the shot that got him out when he was looking good to take his team through to Mumbai’s first-innings total
I had to take the risk. I played it but was frustrated [about getting out]. I had thought I would hold up one end and score but I played the delivery instead.
On the plan for tomorrow
We will attack tomorrow.
