Aussie bowler gets five-for on his return to the side
Melbourne, Dec 28: Back in the national side, Australian pacer Ben Hilfenhaus picked five wickets to wrap up India’s first innings for 282 after the visitors were going strong at 214 for the loss of three wickets on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test. His inspired performance with the ball gave the host’s a 51-run first-innings lead on Day 3.
Excerpts from Hilfenhaus’ chat with the media at the end of Day 3:
On whether a fuller length was part of the plan for Day 3
Yes, on that wicket we felt that there was a still a little bit of movement so we needed to get the boys driving and using the swing which is there.
On the secret behind making a strong comeback to the side
I have been working on a few technical things over the last eight to twelve months or so. It has started to pay off and I’m feeling pretty good at the crease which is important.
On his assessment of the match situation at the end of Day 3
It has been sliding back and forth a little bit but the Indian bowlers have shown that there is obviously still a little bit in the wicket. [On Day 4] we need to put a few more runs [on the board] and hopefully we can bowl well enough to defend it.
On whether he was looking forward to bat
I’m always looking forward to getting out there [and batting] especially with Mike [Michael] Hussey tomorrow. I’ve just got to play a supporting role with him and go from there.
