I focus on movement: Chinte
Summary

Mah’tra U-19 quick working on reverse swing

Mumbai, Jan 30: As Day 3 of the Cooch Beher Under-19 2011-12 final drew to a close, the shining stars of the tournament emerged. The highest run-getter and highest wicket-taker distinctions will both go to Maharashtra. Vijay Zol wins batting honours while pacer Amol Chinte and left-arm spinner Satayjit Bacchav are both still in contention for the highest wicket-taker title. Chinte claimed four wickets in the first innings of the ongoing final, including the top three of the Mumbai line-up, to help bowl out the opposition for 173 on the first day. As Mumbai pile on the runs in the second innings, the pacer had claimed just the one wicket at the end of Day 3.

Chinte spoke about his bowling after stumps on Day 3. Excerpts:

On whether the wicket had changed since the first innings

There was more swing in the first innings; also, I had bowled fuller in the first innings. This innings the bowl wasn’t swinging much and I tried to bowl short of a length. The wicket is now more helpful for the batsmen. Will have to work hard to get wickets.

On their chances in the game on the last day

We will try to bowl them out early today. If we bowl them out in the first 15 overs, we can go for the target.

On whether his focus was on swing or movement

I focus on the movement. I look at the bounce and then decide to swing it in or out.

On the competition between him and teammate Satayajit Bacchav for the tournament’s leading wicket-taker title

I have 34 wickets and I think he has about 36 wickets right now.

On his background

This is my second year in Under-19 cricket. I am from Latur and have been playing cricket for the last five years. I have always liked to bowl. I have not played at the Under-16 level.

On his inspiration

[Glenn] McGrath is my idol.

On the variations that he is trying to develop

I am trying reverse swing.

On his coach

We are in the camp for three to four months, so our coach David Andrews guides me. And in Latur Ganesh Sir guides me.

On his fitness training

I bowl in the morning session, in the evening I run about ten rounds and then I do gym training.
