Indian batsman Virat Kohli relives the moment when the master asked him whether he should go for a review or not
Bengaluru, March 6: If Sachin Tendulkar walks up to you and asks you something about cricket then you are special. And if the little master asks whether he is out or not then you have to be something more than special.
Virat Kohli on Sunday had a similar moment he will remember all his life. In the 21st over when Tendulkar was adjudged out lbw to a young George Dockrell, the legend walked to take Virat’s opinion on whether to take a review or not. Virat politiely said, “I think that is out, Sachin.”
Excerpts from an interview where Virat relives the moment:
On the successful run-chase
Yeah, it was a good chase in the end. They [Ireland] were bowling at the stumps and it was very hard for us to get going. I and Sachin [Tendulkar] decided to get a partnership going. We had a good partnership at the top and that probably set it up for the guys coming in later.
On what Sachin Tendulkar asked him after being adjudged out lbw by the on-field umpire
Yeah, he asked me about it [whether to take the review or not]. I told him that it was hitting the stumps and there is no point taking the review. And that is pretty much all he said to me.
On the misunderstanding with Yuvraj Singh which resulted in his run-out
Yeah, mix-ups happen and that is part of the game. I am glad that he [Yuvraj] finished the game for us.
On whether he has made any change in his game
I think I have learnt from my mistakes and that has been my main goal. I am good with the responsibility to bat higher up the order.
On the win
It is a good win and getting two points under the belt gives a good feeling.
