I want to continue my form: Virat
Summary

Batsman is delighted to have performed in front of his home crowd

New Delhi, Oct 17: With a dazzling innings of 112 not out, Delhi lad, Virat Kohli starred in India’s second consecutive victory over England at the Feroz Shah Kotla cricket ground here in Delhi today. Having played his first big knock in an international game in front of his home crowd, Kohli said he was happy with the way he batted and was looking to continue with his current form.

Excerpts from the post-match media interaction:

On his century that ensured an Indian victory

Yes, it is especially satisfying playing at my home ground. It’s always a special feeling playing at [Feroz Shah] Kotla. Even yesterday at the press conference, they asked me what kind of feeling I have. I [said], I have played only two international games here, one was abandoned because of some reason and I didn’t do [too] well in the other one. I was really keen to perform on my home ground, and, luckily, I pulled it off today. I am really happy with the way I batted.

On whether the pitch was doing a bit

Yes, it was. The English bowlers were getting a bit of bounce early on but I [have] played on a similar kind of wicket in the IPL, in Delhi. It was coming on to the bat beautifully. It kind of suited me, the way I play, it suited my strokes. I knew that if I get a good start on this kind of wicket, if you play correct cricketing shots you get boundaries. It is a quick outfield, so we had to string in some sort of a partnership. Gautam Gambhir batted beautifully along with me and we were able to string-in that big partnership.

On the partnership – in which the duo were scoring without taking too many risks

Yes, there is no point in trying to outplay yourself. As [MS] Dhoni bhai said, I am a strokeplayer and so is Gauti [Gautam Gambhir] bhai. So, we didn’t have to take too many risks. We just had to retain the strike which we did beautifully out there in the middle.

On looking forward to continuing his form

I want to continue my form as long as possible. It’s a funny game, you never know when you can hit a bad patch. I want to extend [my form] as much as I can but stay humble in the process.
