In fond memories of ‘Tiger’
Summary

Kumble to deliver the 2nd edition of MAK Pataudi Memorial Lecture

The BCCI, in 2012, instituted an annual tribute to one of India’s greatest Test cricketers and captains, in form of the Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Memorial Lecture.

The inaugural lecture was delivered by former India captain and legendary opening batsman, Sunil Manohar Gavaskar in Chennai. In a nostalgic trip down the memory lane, Gavaskar reminisced his interactions with the royal cricketer and delighted the audience with Tiger’s anecdotes. (Watch the lecturehere and read the transcript here).

To deliver the second edition of the lecture, the BCCI has chosen another former India captain and one of the most respected ambassadors of the game, Anil Kumble. The champion leg-spinner and an extremely eloquent speaker will speak on November 13, in Mumbai.

After serving India as a true match-winner on the cricket field 18 years, Kumble has carried his deep passion and tremendous knowledge for the game to the boardroom and is striving for the betterment of Indian cricket. He is presently the Chairman of the BCCI's Technical Committee, and the ICC Cricket Committee, besides being the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

Kumble’s most endearing quality as a cricketer was his penchant for fight and the never-say-die attitude. It hence, makes him an apt candidate to talk about a man who instilled the attribute of courage in Indian cricket as the national team’s leader and taught India how to win.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, known to the cricketing world as 'Tiger,' represented India in 46 Tests from 1961-62 to 1974-75, and scored 2,793 runs, inclusive of six centuries. He captained the national side in forty Tests, and was in charge when India registered their first-ever Test series win on foreign soil, in New Zealand in 1967-68.

The Lecture will be attended by the India and West Indies cricket teams, former India captains, cricketers who played Tests alongside and under MAK Pataudi, current and former office-bearers of the BCCI, senior representatives of the BCCI’s Affiliated Units, and other select invitees. The Lecture will be telecast live on the Star Sports Network, and streamed lived on www.bcci.tv from 7 pm onwards.
