Tremian and Worrall run through Ind ‘A’s batting lineup
India ‘A’ lost their opening game of the ongoing quadrangular one-day series in Australia to the hosts in Townsville by eight wickets after being bundled out for a paltry 55. Fast bowler Chris Tremain picked five wickets while Daniel Worrall claimed four to set the game up for Australia ‘A’. Asked to bat first, the Indian batsmen succumbed in 15.4 overs to the opposition. Pegging the visitors with his line and length, Tremain claimed three in the third over to leave India ‘A’ gasping on 10 for three. While Karun Nair was trapped lbw, Mandeep Singh found his woodwork disrupted off the next ball. Although Manish Pandey survived one ball to deny the bowler a hat-trick he departed off the next without opening his account. The Indians were caught in the crease and unable to recover thereafter as the new-ball bowlers tightened the noose around their neck. Kedar Jadhav lofted Worrall towards mid-on where Chris Lynn took a spectacular diving catch while Tremain accounted for Sanju Samson and Faiz Fazal in the next. The bowler had the India ‘A’ opener, edge through to the slips where Alex Ross took the catch diving forward. Worrall then claimed three more while Michael Neser picked one to warp-up the lower-order. Axar Patel, showed some resistance and was the only India ‘A’ batsman to reach double-digits before being the first to fall after the drinks break. The Australian openers - Kurtis Patterson and Marcus Stoinis bided their time at the crease taking the home team to eight without loss in the first five overs. Stoinis then unleashed himself and slammed Dhawal Kulkarni for a six followed by boundary off Unadkat in the next. As Australia ‘A’ approached the meagre target, Pandey, leading the side introduced spin from both ends. Yuzvendra Chahal posed a few questions with turn and bounce but the Australians batted patiently to overhaul the target. The leg-spinner claimed Stoinis while Patel accounted for Lynn, however Patterson unhurriedly guided Australia ‘A’ across the line. India ‘A’ will now take on South Africa ‘A’ on August 17, 2016. Brief scores: India ‘A’ 55/10 in 15.4 overs (A Patel 15, C Tremain 5/25, D Worrall 4/26) lost to Australia ‘A’ 56/2 in 17.1 overs (K Patterson 23*, M Stoinis 19, A Patel 1/8, Y Chahal 1/17) by 8 wickets.
