India become top-ranked Test team
Summary

India lead the ICC Rankings with 110 points; Australia a close second with 109 points

Following South Africa’s seven-wicket loss to England in the second Test, at Johannesburg, India are now the world’s top-ranked Test team.

India, after defeating the Proteas 3-0 in the 2015-16 home series, are leading the list with 110 ranking points. Australia, with 109 ranking points, are placed second.

India’s rise on the table began with their historic series 2-1 series win in Sri Lanka in November 2015, and the triumph over South Africa took them to the second position. The Proteas, on the other hand, have not managed to win a single Test match in over a year.

This is the first time since 2011 that India have held the top spot on the ICC Test rankings. However, the second-placed Australia could take the top-spot if they win the Test series in February against the sixth ranked New Zealand 1-0.
