'India outplayed us in all departments'
Summary

Cook hopes that his side can put up a better performance in the next ODI

Hyderabad, Oct 14: After England were beaten comprehensively in the opening game of the five-match ODI series against India, the visitors’ captain, Alastair Cook, admitted to being outplayed by the hosts in all departments of the game in the post-match media interview.

The visitors were done in by some quality spin, having been bundled out in just 36.1 overs. Cook spoke about the team’s learnings in the interview.

On England having given away 40 runs too many

I would say so; 260-270 [runs] on that wicket. It was an important toss to win as you saw in the end, the ball kept a bit low. India, they outplayed us today, in all the three departments.

On England losing control after having India under pressure in the first 30 overs

The last 20 overs went for 180 runs. It was a tough time for us and we are going to have to learn from it. This is a five –match series, you have four other chances.

On England having shown the ability to regroup as a team in the last 12 to 18 months even after losing a game badly

Yes, without a doubt and we are going to have to do this now. Very tough conditions but we have to stay tight as a team, stay very strong, analyse where we went wrong and hope we put up a better performance in a couple of days time.

On playing spin being the key in the middle overs

Yes, we know that. That is an issue, a skill thing. We have to work harder over the next couple of days and not allow that to happen again.
