The first four-day game between India Under-19 and England Under-19 ended in a draw in Nagpur. While Max Holden (170) and George Bartlett (179) helped the visitors to a solid 501 for five declared in the first innings, Daryl Ferrario (117) was the only centurion in India’s reply of 431 for eight until declaring their first innings. Sijomon Joseph then claimed six for 62 to bowl England out for 167 in their second innings. Chasing 238, India were 189 for eight when the match ended. Electing to bat first, the visiting England U-19 team, milked India U-19s in their first innings as Holden and Bartlett piled on runs. The pair put together 321 runs until Bartlett was sent back by Joseph while Ferrario accounted for the opener to leave the side on 418 for three. Delray Rawlins (70*) then took the team past the 500-run mark before they declared their innings. India lost Rohan Kunnummal with 23 runs on the board and Saurabh Singh joined Abhishek Goswami in taking the innings forward. The second wicket partnership had taken the hosts to 120 when the opener was sent back by Liam Patterson White. India continued to keep losing wickets at regular intervals, however, Ferrario’s century helped them keep the innings on course. But, with team on 431, India declared their innings. As England then looked to add on to the total, they were bowled out for 167. Running through the line-up, Joseph claimed six while Ferrario took two and K Seth and R Bhagat picked a wicket each. Chasing the improbable target, India were left reeling at 48 for five by England as the top five batsmen returned for single digit scores. While S Lokeshwar strove to hold up one end, the home team continued to lose wickets. The lower middle-order bat was not out on 92 with V Panwar when play ended.
