Agarwal stars in Karnataka win

Here is the round-up for the last day of the 2012-13 Inter State Twenty20 league:

Central Zone

Vidarbha vs UPCA: With four points after an eight-wicket win over Vidarbha, UPCA finished the last game of the Twenty20 league with 12 points and claimed a berth in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. Half-centuries by PS Gupta and Mohd. Kaif helped UPCA successfully chase 129, after their bowlers ran through the Vidarbha line-up. RP Singh and Imtiyaz Ahmed claimed two wickets each, while Praveen Kumar and P Chawla picked one apiece, after UPCA opted to field first and restricted the opposition to 128 for nine.

MPCA vs Rajasthan: Rajasthan won the last game of the domestic T20 league against Madhya Pradesh by six runs. After opting to bat first, Rajasthan were powered to 151 for five by AS Lamba (64 off 48) and RB Bishnoi (52 off 31). A four-for by Rituraj Singh and two wickets each by G M Parihar and M S Khatri then helped them bowl Madhya Pradesh out for 145 with a ball to spare and pull off a win.

North Zone

Himachal vs Punjab: After the ST Kaul-led attack bundled out Himachal for 100 runs in Lahili, Punjab attained the target in 9.4 fours to claim a two-wicket win. After opting to field first, Kaul claimed a four-for, while Manpreet Gony and Amitoze Singh picked two wickets each and RJ Singh took one. Although they chased down the target in less than half the allotted overs, Punjab lost eight wickets in the process. M Sidana top-scored for Punjab with 26 runs.

DDCA vs SSCB: Chasing a 111-run target, Services achieved got home with four balls and five wickets to spare in Lahili. Yashpal Singh’s 36-ball 46 helped Services clinch a win with significant contributions from NH Verma (26) and Rajat Paliwal (23 n.o.).

Haryana vs J&K: After striking with the ball, JO Sharma propelled Haryana to a three-wicket win over J&K with a 35-ball 75-run blitzkrieg in Lahili. Earlier, batting lower down the order, BK Singh (52) and SS Shah (74) took J&K to 167, after they were left tottering on 40 for seven by Haryana. Amit Mishra had claimed three scalps, while Sharma and AH Hooda took two wickets each and Harshal Patel chipped in with one.

South Zone

Hyderabad vs Tamil Nadu: An eight-wicket win over Tamil Nadu on the last day of the domestic Twenty20 league, Hyderabad registered their only win of the phase. Earlier, upon being asked to bat first, T Suman (48) and B Sandeep (44) helped Hyderabad set a 168-run target for TN. Their bowlers then held TN to 159 for nine to help their team notch a win. CV Milind and A Bhandari claimed three wickets each, while Ashish Reddy picked two scalps.

Kerala vs Goa: Kerala beat Goa by 38 runs to take their points tally to 16 and claim a place in the the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament beginning next week. After posting 146 for nine, Kerala skittled Goa out for 108. P Prasanth took four wickets, while S Warrier picked three as they helped wrap up the Goa innings with three balls to spare.

Andhra vs Karnataka: With a thumping nine-wicket win over Andhra, Karnataka strengthened their position at the top of the South Zone table. With 18 points, they have sealed a berth for themselves in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. Mayank Agarwal (75*) and K Rahul (60*) took the team across the line.

West Zone

Baroda vs Maharashtra: Maharashtra beat Baroda by seven runs in the West Zone encounter in Ahmedabad. Defending 178 runs, they bowled Baroda out for 171 with a ball to spare. Earlier, half-centuries by in form batsman Vijay Zol and Kedar Jadhav took Maharashtra to 178 for four. S M Fallah and S S Ranjane then sliced through the Baroda line-up with three wickets each, while D J Muthuswami, R A Tripathi and G B Gaikwad claimed a wicket each to bowl the opposition out for 171.

Saurashtra vs Gujarat: With a thumping 72-run victory over Saurashtra, the Parthiv Patel-led side took their points tally to 16 and secured a place for themselves in the next phase. Opting to bat first at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat set Saurashtra a 188-run target. Akshar Patel top-scored for Gujarat with 43 and was involved in an unbroken 66-run partnership with Jesal Karia. The Mehul Patel-led Gujarat attack then ran through the Saurashtra innings with clinical precision. Mehul claimed a five-wicket haul, while Jignesh Patel and Rakesh Dhruv took two wickets each and Akshar chipped in with one to bowl Saurashtra out for 115 with 20 balls to spare.
