IPL player auction racks up record numbers

The IPL 2011 Player Auction signalled the start of the fourth season with a bang in Bangalore, on 8 and 9 January 2011.

55 Players were taken on Sunday, 9 January 2011, for $9.9 million, taking the total spent over the two days to $62.8 million. The 127 players taken in the auction were from the following countries:

As from Monday 10th January 2011, the Franchises may start to sign uncapped Indian players, in order to complete their squads, using the remaining balance of their initial $9 million salary cap. According to IPL regulations the uncapped Indian players can be taken on fixed fees which are determined by when they first played First Class or List A cricket.

During the IPL 2011 Season, each team will play a total of 14 games, 7 Home and 7 Away. To achieve this, each team will play 5 teams Home and Away, 2 teams at Home only and 2 teams Away only. The draw to determine how this schedule would work was made during the auction, and is attached.

The 2011 IPL season will start on Friday, 8th April 2011 and conclude on Saturday, 28th May 2011.
