Irani Cup: Match Report – Rajasthan vs ROI, Day 4
Summary

Raj trail by 590 on another good day for ROI batsmen

Jaipur, Oct 4: The Rest of India (ROI) batsmen piled on the runs in the second innings to set Rajasthan a mountainous target of 617 on Day 4 of the Irani Cup encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. At the end of day’s play, Rajasthan were trailing by 590 runs with all wickets intact and a day to score them in.

The ROI batsmen made merry on a pitch that had earlier seemed to torment the Rajasthan batsmen with uneven bounce. Taking off from their first innings, the visitors continued to pummel the Rajasthan bowlers. Shikhar Dhawan hammered 155 off 126 runs in his second outing while Abhinav Mukund, who was out early in the first innings, slammed 154 off 159 deliveries.

Post drinks, Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey added 26 runs before ROI declared their second innings on 354 for the loss of two wickets.

With a day and less than a session left to get to the target, Rajasthan returned to bat. At stumps, after batting for seven overs, Aakash Chopra (19 runs) was at the crease with Vineet Saxena on three runs.

Earlier, resuming on the overnight score of 307 for the loss of six wickets, Rajasthan were all out for 400 runs in the first innings. Ashok Menaria was the first to depart for 79 runs after adding 20 more runs to his overnight score. After sending back Menaria, Pragyan Ojha went on to trap Deepak Chahar lbw.

Madhur Khatri and Sumit Mathur added 50 runs for the ninth wicket until the partnership was broken by Vinay Kumar with the wicket of Khatri. Ojha then wrapped up the Rajasthan innings with the wicket of Mathur.

The spinner finished with a five-for and Vinay Kumar, who has had a few forgettable outings on the international scene in recent times, claimed three wickets.
