PK remains confident of solving his run-up woes ahead of bowling for India in the second innings
Jamaica, June 22: Praveen Kumar playing his first Test match for India had a rather eventful debut at Sabina Park. Known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, PK was among the thick of things from the very beginning. Not only did the pacer take three wickets during the West Indies first innings, he was also barred from bowling after three warnings by the umpire for stepping onto the protected area on the pitch.
While speaking to the media the pacer said that he was so engrossed in his task he didn’t quite realise that he was stepping on to the protected area. Looking at the proceedings in a positive light, PK promised that he will work on correcting his mistake before the second innings.
Excerpts from PK’s television interview with veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar:
On his debut
Feeling good and quite enjoyed my bowling.
On the ball not swinging as much after lunch as it did before
Suddenly some ball would swing and some didn’t. So, [I] planned accordingly, to bowl according to the criteria [right area].
On being warned for running on the pitch which has never happened before
I also don’t understand how this has happened. So, [I] will work on that.
On working with the coach to correct the problem
The coach has said that we will work on this so that it doesn’t happen in the second innings. Hopefully, it won’t happen again.
On what would be a good score for India in the second innings
450 – 500 runs [laughs], let’s see whatever happens. Depends on the mind-set [of the batsmen], but the more runs they make the better.
