England Women’s captain pleased with 2-0 win
Chelmsford, June 29: Hosts England comprehensively beat India at the County Ground to win the two-match NatWest International T20 series 2-0.
Speaking to the media after the eight-wicket win over the visitors, skipper Charlotte Edwards said, “I’m delighted; today was about us getting a result to win the series and we did that convincingly.
“I'm really pleased that it’s been an all-round team performance, though obviously Sarah Taylor has been a huge standout for us.
“It’s a really good ground for us here at Chelmsford; we’ve been successful here in the past so it’s nice to continue that and a nice way to wrap up the series.”
Speaking about the fielding effort of the team, Edwards specially lauded Greenway’s diving stop to flick the ball back over the rope, ending India’s top-scorer Harmanpreet Kaur’s effort in the middle. “Lydia Greenway’s commitment to her fielding is second to none – she leads our fielding unit. Some of those stops were exceptional and she works really hard out there so all credit to her,” she commented.
“The bowlers bowled well and we get people in the right places; fielding is something we set ourselves really high standards on and I’m pleased with how we performed today.
“We’re really looking forward to the one-day series,” added Edwards while talking about the five-ODIs ahead. “Playing at Lord’s is always special and we also love playing at some of the out-grounds.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to showcase the game to crowds that don’t often get to see us play.”
