Suresh Raina hopes team India maintain their winning spree
Trinidad, June 6: With a 50-ball knock of 43, Suresh Raina played a crucial knock as India registered a four-wicket victory in the first ODI of their five-match series against the West Indies. The Indian skipper credited Shikhar Dhwan and Rohit Sharma for their diligent half-centuries that helped lay the foundation for India’s victory.
In a post-match media interaction Raina spoke about the team and the areas that they would work upon.
Excerpts:
On the pleasing victory
Yes [it is pleasing]. It was a great game. We set the foundation. Especially [the] bowlers have done a great job, followed by Rohit [Sharma] and Shikhar [Dhawan]. They batted really well.
On whether he thought India stuttered initially after losing three-four wickets:
To be honest, yes. Because in between, the wicket was not good for batting. I think we rotated the strike really well, specially Rohit Sharma and he [Dhawan] batted really well actually.
On whether it is difficult to convert from Twenty20 cricket to 50-over cricket
I would say, probably, when you field, you still lose the intensity a bit. But when it comes to batting it is still the same. You have to bat 30 overs more.
On the fielding, a couple of missed opportunities
We can do better. We have a young side, couple of boys they need to put up the intensity more and hope that we will do well in the next game too.
On what he is looking to improve upon
We need to field really well. Bowlers have done really well, especially Munaf [Patel] and PK [Praveen Kumar. [Amit] Mishra I think set the pressure for West Indies. Then Harbhajan {Singh] got the wicket at the crucial time. It’s looking good at the moment, I hope we do well in the next game.
